No offense intended to the original poster. We just hear that one so often, it has become an inside joke. -Phil

Yeah, no offense intended either. Y'know...maybe they'll announce a new one at NAB....Hmmm...wonder what they'll call it...Sony used to put an A after the upgrades. Then they started adding 100 (BVW300...300A...400...400A, etc.). But with the DVCAMs they did an L1 (as in DSR500WS/L1) for the first upgrade...then they started adding 70 instead of 100--DSR570, 370, although they did an A for the PD100A. No real consistency there--they even turned it into a PDX10 for the next upgrade.
So...will the new PD150 be a PD170? Or maybe a PD150A. Or a PDX15? Or something totally ridiculous, like a PDX170A? And will it have 30 frame progressive? Will it have 1/3" 16:9 chips? Will this post start a whole new chain of rumors? |

I've chimed in on this one many times. Sony does have a new consumer camera, the PC300. It has single 1/3" CCD with 3 Mpixels for stills and 2M pixels for video. It does progressive (rate not specified, but 30p assumed) and native 16:9. It also has the 14-bit ADC. I don't think it does HDV...actually I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Although the CCD has enough resolution to support 1080i.
Is it possible the VX3000/PDX15 will be out in September? Unlikely. That close, a leak is certain. NAB 2004? I wouldn't bet against it. It will nearly certainly have three of the PC300's chips similar to the PDX10 having 3 of the same chips found in the PC105. Will it have 24p? TBD...but Pansonic definitely put that out there. And I sure Sony doesn't want to leave that hole in a camera that will be sold for 2-4 years. |
