PDX10 and 14 Bit DXP

Margus has pointed out and Sony PDX10 info says PDX10 has 14 Bit DXP (Digital Extended Processor). Excuse ignorance, but what does this mean-- sounds like a benefit but does it relate to higher level sampling rate hence maybe sharper picture or what??

14 bit DXP prevents wash-out and gives more detail in the shadow areas, oh yes and better signal/noise

14 bit DXP

Thanks for input, j and to Margus for pointing this feature out. Also, j, very interesting earlier input on 25p.
