Thinking of going 4K with my FS700 - help!
Hi all, I'm thinking of going down the $k route with my FS700, I have a few questions...
First, I need to upgrade my firmware... is there any real benefit to me upgrading the firmware if I don't go the 4K option? For example, I see you can record for longer periods of time with the slo-mo feature (I think) - is this available for regular recording? I'm thinking of getting Odyssey7Q - once I get that with the firmware, can I then start recording 4k - if not, what else is required? Also, can I record slo-mo to the Odyssey? Sorry if these questions have been answered already! |

The 4K upgrade is handy because it also gives you slog2 in camera and a REC709 800% gamma curve. That's about it, though. Slog2 can be very nice sine it fixes a few issues and gives you a known starting point, though its tough to monitor without luts.
And 7Q questions depend, are you asking about projected 7Q features or current? Currently you can only record 2K uncompressed RAW DNG and up to 240fps. No 4K and prores till they add it to the firmware but they say it's coming. |

The CD firmware updates keep falling behind. They just missed another one a couple of days ago. Maybe it might be better to see if there are any new 4k cameras at NAB.

My understanding is their engineering team keeps working on all the features but they are mostly waiting for Apple to license them for Prores. Hopefully as soon as prores comes through they'll release a big firmware that adds that and whatever other features are ready. Either way it's still great just as a monitor and multi-stream monitor you can have now, and I imagine a itll still give you 4K sooner than waiting for another camera to show up.

I'm sure I'm not the only one holding off on buying the 7Q until it offer ProRes. It's getting to be a long wait.

As I understood it they are just hoping that Sony one they will let them do 4K raw and that it's not even up on the tables yet... As long as Sony sells some of their own recorders to FS700 owners that probably won't happen. Cause if the Q7 can do it, nobody will buy Sony's extremely impractical bazooka solution ;)

Exactly which is why I am a little dubious it will ever come to pass.
