Question about EF to E-mount adapter for the FS100 or FS700
I've been researching different adapters and the Metabones EF to E-mount smart adapter seems to be the best one for the money at the moment although they are out of stock. http://www.metabones.com/ I have a few different lenses that I'd like to use with the Metabones adapter. I have a Canon lens the EF 24mm f/1.4L and a EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS which I'll use with the Metabones adapter. I also have a Tokina 11-16 which is another lens supported by the adapter. The only other lens I have is the Zeiss ZF 50m. My question is would I need a passive adapter for the Zeiss since it doesn't need to communicate with the lens or can it be directly mounted to the E-mount? BTW If anyone is using the Birger or the MTF adapter just wondering what your thoughts are and is it worth waiting for the Metabones.

Re: Question about EF to E-mount adapter for the FS100 or FS700
I use Canon L's with the metabones and they work fine with the electronic iris controller and IS.
I also have a few mechanical only lenses (Rokinon) and they work fine with the same adapter.

thanks Olof. I read somewhere I think on freshDV that the Zeiss ZF could be mounted directly on the E-mount but not sure. Are you using the EF 85mm f/1.2L with the adapter does it work?

Re: Question about EF to E-mount adapter for the FS100 or FS700
That is one lens I don't have.
I have tried it with 27-70 2.8 L, 70-200 2.8 IS L and 100-400 4-5.6 IS L, Rokinon 8mm f3.5 these all work. I have a bunch more primes I have not tried yet. I have only had the 700 for a few days so far. Others here may have tried more lenses. I will try the 100mm 2.8 macro and 50mm 1.4 and 17-40 f4 L, as well as the Canon 2X adapter with the 100-400 soon and if I have problems I will post about them here.

My FS700 arrived
my FS700 was delivered yesterday but my Metabones adapter hasn't arrived yet I ordered it on Aug 5th so I hope it arrives this week.
Anyway I'll be using Canon L lenses but I have one Zeiss ZF 50mm f/1.4 lens that I'd like to use with the FS700 do I need to get this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/674547-REG/Cinevate_Inc_CNADNA000021_Canon_EOS_to_Nikon.html to interface with the Metabones or can you recommend or suggest something else? |

Re: Question about EF to E-mount adapter for the FS100 or FS700
I know that DVInfo sponsor Abel Cine had them in stock not to long ago. You should check with them. I purchased mine from Brins and Sawyer. I think that going through a vendor is quicker than ordering from Metabones directly. I love my adaptor though. It works perfectly!!

The Metabones works fine. I also have a Nikon to Sony adapter from Fotodiox, whcih was only $70, and allows me to use me nikon primes ( no is and iris control on lense only).

Re: Question about EF to E-mount adapter for the FS100 or FS700
Just one thing to note is that with any of the Canon electronic adaptors the iris operates in steps and some lenses (mostly non Canon) click loudly enough to be audible on any sync sound.
It's a solution, but not a perfect one. I still prefer lenses with manual iris rings, these are silent and you can change exposure smoothly mid-shot if you need to.

Re: Question about EF to E-mount adapter for the FS100 or FS700
I could not say for sure.
The Pro says it's a "Permium grade Pro adaptor" but it says nothing about controlling the Nikon G mount lenses and in the photos therer is no "Lock - Open" ring which lets you control the aperture on the G mount lens as well as non G mount Nikkor lenses. So they would have to be controlled by the lens. Which is why I went with the other "non pro" adaptor. cheers Morton |
