FS100 codec converted to XDCAM / EX3 codec
Just wondering if there is a way of converting my FS100 images to EX3 codec. The client wants EX3 codec - presumably for ease of editing in their system,
I'll be shooting interior interviews only so the lighting/contrast will be set and forget. I would be converting on a PC and I use Vegas 12-13. Hope you can help. Cheers |

Re: FS100 codec converted to XDCAM / EX3 codec
Yes there is.
You will need a script in your Vegas script folder called 'Add Regions to Events.' This is NOT a standard Vegas script. Look below for the attached script. Drop this into your 'Script Menu' folder which is in the Vegas install directory under Program Files. Now start Vegas. 1) Bring in all your FS100 footage via Device Explorer in Vegas. 2) Throw all your FS100 footage on the timeline. BTW Device Explorer is found under the View / Window / Device Explorer menu in V13. Select the track with all the footage and go to the Tools / Scripting menu and select the 'Add Regions to Events.' Running this script will now place Region Markers to each clip on the timeline. Next go back to the Scripting menu and select the 'Batch Render' script. This will now open a dialogue box called 'Batch Render.' Next step is important. First and foremost give your batch conversion a 'Base File Name' and select the destination folder you want to use under the Browse button. If you want separate clips rendered out check the 'Render Regions' dialogue at the bottom of the Batch Render window. Now if you look part way down the list of render options you will find one called XDCAM EX. Expand the + sign next to that and it will now give you a drop down selection of EX render options of different dimension, frame rates and bit rates. Choose the one you want and hit OK. Vegas will now chomp through the timeline converting each of your FS100 files to XDCam EX MP4s. These MP4s are actually MPEG-2 files in an MP4 wrapper. Very easy to work with in most editing software. If you specifically want EX MXF output files that render option is further down the render selection list. Happy Batching!
