70-200 lens for fs100?
Hey all, I want to get a 70-200 zoom, and was curious if anyone has had experience with either the sigma (about $1400) or the Tamron (about $700)?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/689579-REG/Sigma_589306_70_200mm_f_2_8_EX_DG.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/539401-REG/Tamron_AF001NII_700_70_200mm_f_2_8_Di_LD.html I'd like the Nikon, which is over $2k, but don't know how often I'd be using it. My main filming is Narative, with some music videos mixed in. Since I don't own lens, and am buying all new, I'm getting Nikon mounts. I'm already getting the Nikon 17-55, And Tonkina 11-16. As I said before, I'd like to add a 70-200 to my zooms. The rest will be Ziess primes. Is it worth skimping on the 70-200? Any thoughts? Last edited by Jeff Troiano; January 17th, 2012 at 10:33 AM. |

Re: 70-200 lens for fa100?
Will you get the optical stabilization without an electronic connection to the FS100?

Re: 70-200 lens for fs100?
Really I'm just worried about best possible picture. Everything I've read (mostly reviews from still photo sites), says the Nikon, hands down is the winner in this department.
I wasn't aware there was a smart adapter for the Nikon lens. I have planned to use all my lens in manual. I haven't given thought to image stabilization, because I didn't figure it would apply when used with the fs100. |

Re: 70-200 lens for fa100?
I've used both the Tamron and the Sigma (non-OS version).
I think the Tamron is Sharper, but I liked the build quality and "feel" of the Sigma better so it's the one I bought. In video, the difference in sharpness is in my opinion, negligible. I don't use it a lot, but it's nice to have when you need it for telephoto stuff. However, I usually rent a Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS long lens when I need it though... |

Re: 70-200 lens for fa100?
Thanks Nate. I've been looking at both of these. One of the other costs to consider in adding a lens this size to your kit is a base plate with rods and a lens support, if you don't already have them.

Re: 70-200 lens for fa100?
I'd really like something like the Canon 70-200f4 - I think it's a good balance of image quality and reach with a decent enough speed for outdoor work (which is when I typically use a lens this long), without being crazy heavy. Problem is everything else I own is Nikon mount with a novoflex mount, which I really like... I don't really want to fool with a "smart adapter" - I just wish there was a novoflex-type mount (or that a mount like that would even work) for Canon lenses.
