NEX-FS700R Replacement
Sony NEX-FS700 was introduced back in 2012 and was given a minor upgrade year later when "R" suffix was added to model number to indicate for the upgrade. Two years have passed after NEX-FS700R kicked off in the market and according to product's lifetime, it is time for Sony to take steps towards replacing this model and introducing a successor to this 3-year-old brand in my opinion. Does anyone agree with my opinion and have any speculations in this regard, or any solid information surfaced over websites?

Re: NEX-FS700R Replacement
Hard for me to imagine something in the FS-700 price range that I wouldn't prefer to buy the FS7 instead of, even if it meant another couple thousand bucks.
The FS-100, however... I was surprised not to see an FS-101 at NAB. |

Re: NEX-FS700R Replacement
Totally agree with your opinion. I Couldn't really find major differences between FS7 and FS700R except UHD 4K internal recording capability credited for FS7.
I wonder if FS7 would provide additional capabilities when coupled with Convergent Design Odyssey7Q over NEX-FS700R. I would be grateful if anyone would clarify it. Last edited by Haitham Lawati; April 22nd, 2015 at 03:59 AM. |

Re: NEX-FS700R Replacement
No matter what Sony says the FS7 is the FS700 replacement. Next replacement is the FS100 whenever it will be updated. Having the AF100 updated into the DVX200 we'll see if in September IBC if Sony updates the FS100.

Re: NEX-FS700R Replacement
I'm sort of expecting sony to release an FS-series full frame video camera, maybe based on the A7s sensor.
Guess it would be limited in frame rates, maybe not do raw etc. Maybe that would be the FS100 replacement. An A7S in a decent video body and some slightly better processing/codecs/whatnot (maybe 10bit external, at least) for $3995 would sell like hot cakes, I believe. Seems weird to release the 28-135 full frame cine lens only for the A7S. (I know there's also the VG900, but no one bought that).

Re: NEX-FS700R Replacement
If they could release a A7S Sensor'd FS700 successor with 240fps in 4K I would sell a kidney to buy it.
The only issue with the slow motion on the FS700 is the fact you need light. But the A7S sensor's low light abilities combined with the light hungry slow mo would just be toooo good !! |

Re: NEX-FS700R Replacement
Hehe, 240p 4K is not gonna happen in a while.
If they would release a full frame video camera that's priced lower than the FS7 I'm pretty sure it would be lacking in some regards. High speed might be on of them.

Re: NEX-FS700R Replacement
Well, finally, there's a decent reasoning as to why they made a 28-135 lens for a crop sensor series. If the series goes full frame at some point. I don't know if I buy it, but I'd love it!

Re: NEX-FS700R Replacement
In my speculations, if Sony intends to release a refreshed version of FS700R, I don't think any major upgrade will take place in the newer version. Very few and minor changes will take place and it is likely that the gamma curve will be promoted to S-Log3 beside 4K internal recording.
