4:2:2 out of HD-SDI port?
Hi everybody,
I was reading up some where a while back but cant seem to find the article.. i read that this camera doesn't out put true 4:2:2 out of the HD-SDI port? i could be wrong but thought i would double check. another question i have is that, If i had an external recorder that took HD-SDI would the picture quality be higher then me shooting at 24mb/s onto Pro Duo cards? This may be a rhetorical question but im still learning lol Thanks, Mike |

Re: 4:2:2 out of HD-SDI port?
All my research says it does output 4:2:2 10-bit. However, the 10-bit data steam has 0 in the top 2 bits yielding 8-bit data.

Re: 4:2:2 out of HD-SDI port?
What about the HDMI port? does that output the same uncompressed HD as the HD-SDI port as well?

The specs are the same.
The 8 vs 10-bit data information (Quoting from memory here.) came from Douglas Spotted Eagle. I believe he got the information from a Sony rep.

Re: 4:2:2 out of HD-SDI port?
That would be a "YES". Just wish a Ninja was in my budget.

Re: 4:2:2 out of HD-SDI port?
You can easily check it out for yourself. Just record a scene and play it back on a good TV/ monitor, then aim the camera at the same scene whilst viewing the image live on the same monitor via the HDMI. You would of course need to choose a scene that could be reached whilst the camera was connected to the monitor.
In effect, the HQ recording mode of the Ninja (Pro-Res HQ) is virtually indistinguishable from uncompressed HDMI output, - certainly with a middle of the road pro-sumer camera like the NX5. Steve |

Re: 4:2:2 out of HD-SDI port?
Yes i can Confirm that the HDMI & HD-SDI Port are at a Higher Video Picture Qulty, as it bepass's the internal codec and chip. So if you use these ports and use something like a ninja or other external recordering device you will be able to record at 4.2.2 and at a higher bitrate.
