NX5U hooked up to Laptop
I was trying today to hook my NX5 up to my laptop to use it for streaming some video, getting ready for a conference where I will be doing something similar in about a month.
Anyways, I think I've discovered the HDMI port on my laptop is output only, how would you guys suggest I hook up the NX5 to the laptop?

Dont quote me on this but i remember asking a similar question a while back and i was told without an IEEE Firewire port on the camera you cannot do any live feed unless hooked up externally to something like the Teradek CUBE (2000$) via HD-SDI port.

SD will probably be good enough, as long as it's widescreen.

Hello Jeff,
You may want to look at getting something similar to a Canopus 110. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/349146-REG/Grass_Valley_602029_ADVC_110_Bidirectional_Media_Converter.html I am not sure about widescreen, you may want to read on this. With this unit you would be able to get the signal to go from analog to DV onto your laptop. Good luck!

Re: NX5U hooked up to Laptop
Jeff,
for live streaming on a Windows 7 platform I use the Elgato Video Capture usb device $99.95. It will capture SD in widescreen. SD works great for live streaming to the web. Considerations to take into account are your internet connection/upload speed. For streaming software I use Wirecast 4 which I highly recommend. Also, unfortunately for Mac users the Mac OS will not recognize the Elgato Video Capture as a general video capture device (yet). Macs are sticklers for their FireWire :) |
