As far as I know all LCD screen will wash out in direct sun light. The only way around this is to use a hood.

Nice. I wonder how much it'll cost?
Edit - that'll be $399. Last edited by Glen Vandermolen; January 17th, 2011 at 02:18 PM. |

Steve - the top screen on my Z1 was perfectly usable with no hood in direct sunlight, quite unlike the NX5's screen. Which is why I'm looking for an alternative.
Anyone tried this monitor? SWIT S-1048C 4.8-Inch HDMI LCD Monitor - Proactive tom. |

Tom that SWIT monitor looks sweet! Would love to see someone throw up a review or unboxing. Also if you can justify doubling the price of that apparently these small hd monitors are the best out there right now as far as resolution : aspect ratio.
5.6" Small HD LCD Monitor, On Camera Field Monitor - the DP6 by SmallHD <-- 899$ Also Ikan has a similar product at a much better price. ikan VH7 - 7" HDMI LCD Monitor <-- 449$ ikan V5600 - 5.6" TFT HDMI LCD <--- 599$

Thanks Chris - having links to click saves so much time. Funnily enough I'm not so concerned about the definition or colour fidelity - I have oodles of than on my NX5's top screen. But the Sony's high definition screen (and finger-poking touch screen surface) means it's near-on invisible in sunlight.
This is a real no-no for a wedding man like me - give me a big (5" diag is enough) screen that I can see from a wide angle in broad daylight and I'll be so happy. In the run 'n' gun situations that often occur at a wedding, pointing the camera in precisely the right direction comes very high on my priority list. I'm off to BVE next month. This is a huge Video Forum held annually in central London every year. I'll be taking along my 160LED to simulate sunlight, and aiming it directly at as many screens as I can find. |

Here are a few pics of my new Marshall 7" Monitor that I picked up from BH photo attached to a Spiderbrace 2 with my AX2000 connected Via HDMI, powered with a provided Canon Battery ....
