To say that 720p60 is lower resolution video than 1080p30, is essentially incorrect (although technically true). Both 1280x720p60 and 1920x1080p30 provide pretty close to the same number of image samples (pixels) per second of video - approx 55 million and 63 million (luminance samples) respectively.
I rarely shoot anything but 720p60 nowadays. Even for relatively low motion video, I distinctly prefer the fluid, life-like look of 60p to the judder of 30p (and especially 24p) - and it's not hardly like 720p60 out of an NX5U or HMC40 looks mushy soft (assuming it was shot reasonably well). |

Robert:
I bet you would distinctly prefer 1080p60 even more… Unfortunately, the NX5 cannot make it. So, you have to compromise between resolution and frame rate. You personally (probably as many others in this forum) decide on making concession of the highest resolution 1080p for the sake of more fluid motion of 60 frames per second video. My point is you prefer 720p60 not because you like 720p resolution (better than 1080p) but because you dislike jerking of 30 frames per second video. The 720p60 format is a compromise. Admit that, and we have no argument anymore. |

720p60 is no more a comprimise than 1080p30/24 is.
If you'd like to argue that 720p60 is a comprimise, then perhaps you'd best do it in a thread where the OP isn't filming fast-paced action sports. In any case, this thread is getting a bit off-track. I'd recommend the NX5 for the OP, or the HMC40 if size and budget are the primary concerns. |
