NX5 HDMI out while recording?
Hi Guys,
I will be shooting an event sometime this month. The client has requested the footage to be output onto several flatscreens as well as a projector within the hall while the event is being recorded so that the audience can see a closup of the speakers. Is it possible to output the footage "while" recording to these screens? A friend of mine told me that the standard video out or component out ports on the camera will do this job. However he was not sure weather or not it would be possible while recording. Can anyone confirm if this is possible? Also if so, can i output the footage using the hdmi port while recording? Thx |

Yeah, absolutely. The HDMI and HD-SDI ports are always active, whether playing back or recording. If you're going to be moving around, though, an HDMI cable is probably the most prone to being accidentally disconnected of all your options (composite included).
The NX5 is actually great for this purpose since you can independently control the appearance of the viewfinder data on the LCD and video outputs (default is LCD only). On a lot of cameras, it's all or nothing, which is a major pain. Best, Aaron

Well... as long as they're paying... ;->
You'll be fine with HDMI as long as you can find a reliable cable of the required length (shorter practical cable lengths are a limitation of HDMI relative to HD-SDI) and you're not doing anything that would risk dislodging the HDMI connector while shooting. Best, Aaron
