LPCM audio and PrPro CS4
Please excuse if this is common knowledge, but I just ran across it. The NXCAM allows LPCM or Dolby audio. Unfortunately, I recorded some great volcanic explosions using the LPCM and tried to edit in PrPro CS4 with no luck. Looking into this, CS4 can not use LPCM audio.
Solutions: First, I am now shooting the volcano action with Dolby and sound is fine. As to the clips previously recorded, the only two solutions I have found are to use Sony Vegas, which does accept LPCM or upgrade to PrPro CS5 which also will imput the LPCM audio without difficulty. I double checked in the Premiere Pro forum and users there have found no problems editing LPCM audio with PrPro CS5. Hopefully (given the cost of upgrading CS4 to CS5) other NXCAM users will see this before they shoot a bunch of video in LPCM that they will have difficulty editing. At least there will be lots more volcanic explosions to record! Cheers, Phil Slosberg |

You could try the evaluation of Grass Vally Edius for 30 days and export your PCM clips to AIFF files and marry them back up in CS4 just to salvage the footage you already shot.

Has anyone tried extracting the audio with Soundbooth?
Also, does anyone know where I can download a raw NX5U clip with PCM audio.

Bill,
Thanks for the sample clip. As I feared Soundbooth has the same problem as PPro CS4. The audio plays as loud static. Sony Vegas Pro 9 take the audio correctly. I was able to extract the audio as a 16-bit wave file using Emicsoft M2TS Converter (4.1.10). Glad I found a work around. Needing an extra process step is not good, but now I know I can use the PCM audio. The PCM audio is one of the main reason I planning on the NX5U rather than the AX2000.
