You would plug the NanoFlash in the HD-SDI output of the camera. Although probably similar, you won't really be able to compare the footage from an EX1R and the NX5 - the EX1 has larger, full-raster sensors (NX5 only has 960 x 1080 sensors which then interpolate to give 1920 x 1080). It has been said that XDCAM EX at 35MBit/s is very similar to AVCHD at 24MBit/s, so I don't think the codec is really the problem if you're trying to compare them.
