Perhaps the second generation of the HXR-NX5U will take care of the issues? If it gives the user a few seconds then shutdown at the 25 minute remaining battery status, then Sony developers should program to prompt the red warning to the operator at 40 minutes remaining or something greater than "25". That shouldn't be too hard a programming change. It would be great if you can customize this number in the menu somewhere, so can you check?

I have experienced the exact same thing with my NX5U. Using the stock battery I was able to shoot about 45 minutes of footage before the battery icon began to blink. A few minutes before the blinking it was estimating about 35 minutes remaining, about a minute later it claimed 18, then it switched off within another minute. This is not acceptable. Even the old InfoLithium-powered Sony Mavica floppy disk based digital still cameras were better at estimating battery life than this!
