Dynamic range test of the Sony VG-20
A torture test really:
A short dynamic range test of the Sony VG-20- YouTube It's no Alexa, but the DR is fair to good for a camera in this price range. One other note, I think the grain structure is quite organic. |

Very nice demo, John
I have a VG-20 also & have been very pleased with it's performance.

Thanks Robert - I think the next test will involve something similar, but with a model so as to judge skin tones.

Re: Dynamic range test of the Sony VG-20
The problem of course is we don't know how many stops are represented on screen between highs and lows.
So we are not seeing what actual dynamic range may be. I do think the VG20 has a very nice range. I have actually converted its footage to Cineform, then put a Cinestyle input on it, and it show a lot of shadow and hightlight detail, that may not show up in the way the image comes of the camera.
