Re: NEX-VG20 Review from Slashcam Deutschland
I suggest it really is impossible to guess let alone determine what camera settings were used. My guess, for what it’s worth, is that the author of this piece was definitely going for a washed-out artsy fartsy look; in other words the look as a whole was intended and is not an outcome, a side effect of wanting to do something else such as trying for shallow DoF as you suggest Chris. My guess is that what we are seeing is exactly what the author intended and who knows what filters, plug-ins were applied in post.
But the fact is we are only guessing (and why not). I visited the VideoSalonED channel on Utube and I do get the impression that we are not dealing with a rank amateur here. I would also not be one bit surprised that there will be some folks out there who will watch this video and say ‘Damn, I love it! What camera did the shooter use? I must get one.’ My take-home on watching this video is that the NEX VG 20 is capable of shooting footage that with an unknown amount of tom-foolery in post is capable of delivering a washed-out, over-exposed, out-of-focus, shallow DoF artsy (depending on what art school you attended) look. Hope you like it, says VideoSalonED! Until we see clean footage right off the camera (which I eagerly await) using standard settings ( more or less) passing judgment on aspects such as sharpness, moiré, aliasing and so on is largely speculation; pointless albeit perhaps fun enough. My opinion only, of course. |

I guess it is my turn to be guinea pig. I ordered, and will let you know when I get it.

Re: NEX-VG20 Review from Slashcam Deutschland
For some reason slashcam has deinterlaced the material from VG-20. This will increase aliasing by 2x. Why do they do this? Who knows...

Bravo!
On the bad side, you'll be the first English speaking review (and we have lots of questions)... |

Re: NEX-VG20 Review from Slashcam Deutschland
I ordered from Sony store, as they said in stock. Don't know where that is, but they charged me California tax, so I am hoping that means they are shipping from California.
I should have taken up a collection for expedited delivery.... :)
