Well here is the ultimate variable ND filter from all reviews - Phil Bloom just did a small review as well. Its expensive - Zeiss glass seems to cause that. Superb color and pin-sharp.

I use a lightcraft vari-nd. Not in the same league as the other two filters in this thread but quite a lot cheaper and perfectly adequate for my needs.
