Rig with quick release

I have a rig question.
I am building a simple rails dog so I can use follow focus and also my eng rig spring pod which will attach to the rails. Qr p'll ate is on the base of the Basel l ate so I can mount to tripod/monopod.

I could simply mount it to the rails and have no issue.
However I wanted to use my Manfrotto qr assembly so I have the option of removing the camera if rails are not desired.

Now the issue is that I want to hold the camera using the handrail on the EA50. But when I do this the tightening knob on the Manfrotto assembly digs into my wrist.I tried mounting a longer qr plate but the rig is out of balance on the rails.

Any idea on how I could rectify the problem.

I have attached a few pics...

Re: Rig with quick release

Hey Michael

Is that a Camtree rail system??? If it is then I know the feeling about the rail digging into your hand ... If it is indeed a Camtree unit (and it looks like mine) you CAN cut away bits of excess aluminium on the top camera plate with a hacksaw. If you would like some pics of what I have done to mine just holler!!

Re: Rig with quick release

Chris the rig rail wasn't the problem. The issue was the Manfrotto's quick release knob digging into my wrist.

The lever on the rig did cut into my wrist originally as they weren't ratcheted knobs so I couldn't turn them away from my wrist. So I simply added an extra washer and all was good.

I did seem to find a solution for the qr knob though. I swapped out the long qr plate on the bottom with the short qr plate on the camera. I was able to place the long qr plate on the camera enough where it didn't interfere with the shoulder stock as well as still balanced on the rig. Now my wrist has just enough clearance between the qr knob and rig knob. So all seemed comfortable so far.

I'll know more after this weekend's 12 hour shoot. If it becomes an issue, then I'll simply mount the camera to the base plate. But I'm not expecting any issues.

BTW the base plate is a D|focus Universal baseplate and the follow focus is a Inditools follow focus friction drive. Love it as it works super smooth with all of my lenses with no lens gears needed.
