Wide lens recommendation

OK so I'm using the Sony VCL-ECU1 Ultra Wide converter along with the 16mm pancake lens on my EA50 (and my VG20 sometimes) and I'm finding that in low light (think dark churches) the image is still too murky for my tastes. I'd have thought that with f2.8 and a prime lens I'd get better image fidelity and sharpness but it seems not. It's obviously a wider view than the kit lens but image quality seems no better

Can someone recommend a good wide prime I could use instead (but without breaking the bank) - I have the Metabones speedbooster so a canon fit lens would be ideal. Also I'm not sure what field of view I'm now getting (says it converts by x0.75).

Cheers

Pete

Re: Wide lens recommendation

Hey Pete

My absolute favourite, favourite is my Tokina 11-16 F2.8 constant .... It's absolutely brilliant for receptions and most of the time you can zone focus and let the camera handle exposure in auto. I use it exclusively for Realty interiors too without a light and the image is always good. It's a Nikon mount so I also use it for Real Estate photography too.

Although it's a zoom I will more often than not shoot mainly at 11mm but for stuff like the first dance I normally go up to 16mm ....really good value for money and sharp as a tack too!!

Re: Wide lens recommendation

Hi Pete

Yeah they are a little pricey but if you can borrow one try it out! Mine was bought for Realty Photos so it paid for itself in a week! Using it on the EA-50 was a bonus but I do really like it.

I got mine "almost new" from a guy on eBay for $460.00 but new they are pricey ...see what eBay has??

My main camera low light lens is a Tamron 17-50 also F2.8 constant and that also works well ..I use the wide lens mainly for cutaways and reception work on the 2nd camera ... You can also pick up very nice Sigmas but they tend to be 24 -70 and although they are very nice it just wasn't wide enough if the priest happened to come in close so I stuck with the 17-50 on the main camera.
