EA50 - Filming Sports Event

Hi,

I've been asked to cover a football match which isn't something I've done before...

Trying to research what the best approach would be? It's for sports video analysis so I'll be up in the stands in the press area, following the action - not extreme close up, more keeping a fifth or a quarter of the pitch in frame.

Any pointers on good settings??

Thanks.

Re: EA50 - Filming Sports Event

Hi Ryan

If you are relying on autofocus the EA-50 isn't that quick sadly ..however since you are doing mid shots and as long as the light is good it might be an idea to stay on manual focus and then keep the shutter locked down at either 50 or 100 depending on the light so your iris stays small ..with big sensor cameras you can get away with shooting at F16 which is impossible with a tiny 3 chip camera ..that way your DOF is huge and you should be in focus wherever to point the camera (within reason)

Lets say you zoom in to 100mm and are 50 metres from the centre of the field ... all the players from 36m to 80m away will be in focus at F4.0 ... lower your shutter so the iris goes to F16 and you are in focus from 20m to infinity ...you can then use it like a point and shoot camera and everything will be in focus.

Check out the calculator : Online Depth of Field Calculator use the Canon 7D preset as that has the same sensor ...just figure where centre of the pitch to your position will be in metres and see what aperture you will need to cover the whole pitch.
