FS100 vs. EA50 SpeedBooster sensor sensitivity test
I was asked, if I could compare the low light sensitivity of the FS100 vs. the EA50 equipped with a Metabones SpeedBooster.
Description is in the video, hope that it is somehow useful. |

Re: FS100 vs. EA50 SpeedBooster sensor sensitivity test
What preset was used on the ea50, looks like pp5 or 6 because of the crushed blacks? Did you move the camera with the ea50 and the speedbooster to get the same field of view compared to the fs100 without speedbooster?
edit: that fs100 looks like something from the terminator movie :) |

Re: FS100 vs. EA50 SpeedBooster sensor sensitivity test
I use profiles from AlbelCine for my FS100 - in this case AB_NORM2 - I ported this profile to the EA50 and had to modify some parameters (Black Level and Color Level) until I got the same image impression compared to the FS100 (visually and using a waveform monitor)
I did not move the camera but used the digital zoom function to get the same field of view Rigging my FS100 I was inspired by this video DSLR Camera Rigs - YouTube ;-) |

Re: FS100 vs. EA50 SpeedBooster sensor sensitivity test
Ah, got it, wish the ea50 had the fs100's sensitivity and clean high gains but I guess I can't complain, especially when my previous camera was a xh-a1.
That link made me laugh, good way to start the day :) |

Re: FS100 vs. EA50 SpeedBooster sensor sensitivity test
The amount of grain depends not only from your ISO settings.
Also the picture profile, especialy the black level, affects it. Thats why its always difficult to compare two different cameras. The sensor of the FS100 has much less resolution and a much better AVCHD codec implementation as the EA50. Generaly one can say the FS100 is at least 2-3should stops better than the EA50. With the speedbooster you win 3/4 of a stop but optical shortcomings of your lens will be more pronounced at the same time. If you like to have nice HiISO pictures you need a fast lens and a good camera like the FS100. If you use an external recorder like the BM Hyperdeck shuttle or Atomos Ninja, the noise will look more natural and fine too. Last edited by Erik Wittbusch; August 19th, 2013 at 03:30 AM. |

Re: FS100 vs. EA50 SpeedBooster sensor sensitivity test
Anyone has done a similar test with the fs700 and ea50? I've got a fs700 shoot coming up and wondering if I can use the ea50 as well, but I'm guessing the sensitivity is too different to make it work.
