CMOS vs CCD has nothing to do with focusing. Only the lens will control who the focusing is.

Z7 only has a 12x zoom. But you can get a MTF adapter & get some Nikon SLR lenses if you really want some super telephoto shots.


I think it is easier to shoot with a shoulder mounted camera, but I find that I can shoot for good amounts of time with my Z7 handheld. I just push it up against my shoulder & use the LCD which is just far enough out to make this possible. Something that the LCD placement on a HVX doesn't make possible. My Z7 rigged out it close to 10lbs, which has some heft to it, but half of what the Betacams I used to used weighed. It all comes down to how well you're trained to shoot handheld.
