jumping TC freerun?

Hi,

anybody using TC freerun?

I matched the Z7s TC (freerun) with another Cam and found that the Timecode jumped after stopping and restarting the recording. Had to search for the correct sync again...

Jump was just a second + some frames, but shouldnt happen and makes me worry about multicam editing with some other Z7s.

Anybody found this too?

solved by testing

Wow - didnt expect this...

I used to capture HDV with the tool HDVSplit - its a nice capture tool that can split HDV files based on TC breaks. Never had problems with it - yet.

I found that this tool produces strange TCs...

I filmed a stop watch and matched the Z7īs internal freerun timecode to the stop watch.

Then I heavily recorded ( - stop - record - stop - long record - power off - hit rec again and so on) a complete tape.

Full size: HDV file)

THE FIRST clip captured by HDVsplit is correct. All other following clips had a shifted timecode. I retested the clips by viewing straight from the cam (TC is ok).
Either HDVsplit has a problem or the HDV stream sent by the cam.

I started Vegas Pro 8.0 (c) and captured with its internal cap application (incl. scene detection), never used it in former times due to some problems I encountered (in earlier version I must admit).

Guess what??

The emedded TC in the clips is fine!

I also switched the cam to HDV-DV live conversion and captured with Vegas DV capture - TC is fine, too.

This was a interesting experience - now I know why my last 2 camera shot did not sync at all...

If you need some multicam editing/syncing : Be careful what capture application you use.

I am happy with Vegas Pro 8 as an NLE - and will rely on its capturing , too.

Finally it wasnt the Z7īs fault at all.

Regards
