Lens Noise ?
Hi all -
One of the first things I noticed when I got my Z7 was a noise coming from the lens. Even when the camera is idle, it makes a light, electronic, chirping noise for the lack of a better description. Sounds like the inner workings of the lens are doing something.... My friend has the cam, and his does it too. I've not noticed the noise worsening or going away during zooming. To be honest, I've not worried too much about it at this point. I typically use an external mic. But still, I'm just more curious as to what it is as it is located right beneath the on-board mic for times when I'd like to use that. Perhaps it's associated with a certain setting I have it on? Thanks, Ed |

You sure you've got the right camera? No onboard mic on Z7.

It's the optical steadyshot system.
Turn it off in the menus and it goes away. I was concerned until I did a bit of analysis to find the source...

Hi John (knight) - yep same camera.
You're right - I said on-board mic.... but I meant the external mic that came with the camera. And Jonathan (Richards) - thanks for the optical steadyshot answer. That makes sense now - I didn't even consider that. Wondering if most folks out there are taking advantage of the opt. stabilization, or just keeping it off. Thanks again |
