Z5U line level input on ch. 2 issue
I shot an event last week at which I was getting a line level feed from the PA mixer. Usually, I use the onboard shotgun in ch. 1 so that I'll have some ambience/applause when needed for the final mix, and the line-level direct feed in ch. 2 . However, I couldn't seem to get any audio level with ch. 2 set to "line" input. The only way it worked was to set it on "mic" at -18db. I tried the same feed in ch. 1 with no problems - the line level input worked exactly as it is supposed to. Any thoughts as to what might be going on here?

don't have either camera or manual to hand - but from memory:
a.input - trim b. there's the other adjustment panel next to the mic? not really sure why we need 'duplicate' controls in the first place? leslie |

I'm happy to report that Sony has resolved the 2 issues I had with my camera (LANC jack and ch. 2 audio levels) which must have been inter-related. I sent the unit to Teaneck NJ for warranty repair at the beginning of the month and it came back to me on Friday. They replaced the "control block" which I'm guessing is the circuit board inside the hand grip. They also shipped it back in a box with form-fitting foam protection - a great thing to have should I ever need to ship it again!
Glad to be back in the saddle. Sam |
