HVR-MRC1 program ru-util.exe won't work with Windows 7

I hadn't any difficulty at all with Windows XP downloading clips from my HVR-MRC1 unit using Sony's ru-util.exe software utility, but having recently upgraded my computer hardware, which also now has Windows 7 O/S installed, ru-util now won't recognise the firewire connection. I looked at customer support but Sony don't seem to have updated the program since its original version 1. There's no problem with my computer firewire input as it works fine with other devices.
I know I can download clips using a C/Flash reader through USB 2 but have found this method so s-l-o-w.
I would be pleased to have any suggestions.

Have you tried searching in the MRC subforum? Seems to me that I read something about this in that forum last winter or spring.

well, not that it's of any real help, but win7/64bit - no problem. using utility.

i don't think there's enough in the utility app to warrant a new version ;-)

are you going direct from unit, or using a f/w card reader? i've found the latter much more convenient.

Yes, many discussions about this in the MRC forum, along with some possible solutions.

Always best to read the appropriate forum and do a search there before posting, and then post to the right forum. More answers that way.

Took the easy way out

Many thanks fellas for your help and suggestions with my MRC1 clip capture problems. I have since bought a Sandisk C/F card Firewire reader. Ru_util recognises the device in Windows 7 and it has the extra advantage of not having to remove the MRC1 unit from the camera to put in the cradle every time.

Thanks again,
