BEEP and LAMPS disabled for CF card recording

In the "OTHERS" menu, I have BEEP and both REC LAMPS set to ON. These work fine when recording to tape. But when EXT ONLY is selected to only record to the MRC1, there are no beeps and no lamps on when I push record. The only indication is the red block on the LCD and an LED on the MRC1.

This is not a big problem, except today I was positioned where I could see neither the LCD nor the back of the MRC1. I thought I had pushed the record button, but it turns out the Z5 was not recording, so I missed a critical scene.

Is there a way I can turn on the BEEP and LAMPS when recording only to the MRC1?
