I have to agree. Previously I used VX2100 and it's a great camera for run-and-shoot situations. I switched to FX1000 and at first I was kinda upset that the automatic mode isn't as quick as in VX. But then I learned how to use manual exposure, gain, focus, and the whole new world opened up to me - I can be as accurate as electronics but much quicker. The LCD on FX1000 is very helpful when focusing, and with all aids turned on (zebra, edge enhancer, histogram) I can nail every single shot in real time.

Depends on what you mean by "automatic mode." If you mean exposure, you can change AE RESPONSE to FAST in the menus. Focus depends on what you're focusing on -- contrasty surfaces with lots of pattern result in lightning-quick focus, mushy buttery faces less so.

And every Sony I've ever had just LOVES chain-link fences.
