MRC-1 Software update
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I spoke with a tech at Sony and they did update the software on my MRC-1 unit. I ran it this weekend, used the utility program and it worked seamlessly. They are not able to tell what version you have on the unit, they all say 01. With that said, if you're having issues with the clips not fusing or missing frames, give them a buzz. If everything is working for you now then you shouldn't need to do anything.

Rob,
How was the update done? Did you download a firmware update or did you have to send the MCR-1 to Sony's service center? Thanks! |

Right now they want the unit sent in. I'm sure at some point it will be a typical firmware upgrade you can download. Give them a buzz, you never know.

I ask not because I'm having a problem and need a fix, but I'm wondering whether my decision to save $360 by buying a gray market unit is going to come back and bite me if I ever have to send it in to the service center. I'm hoping that firmware can be flashed by end-users via a CF card.

I guess it would be no different than the warranty running out. You would have to pay to send it in at that point. Your unit is working and you saved $360. I wouldn't worry about it.
