does the fx1000 have a macro mode? Like a mode where I can close focus within a limited zoom range?

Not as such. But the manual notes that when pulled wide, you can focus as close as 1 cm to the lens, while zoomed in the minimum distance is about 80cm.

No macro mode but Adam is right - I was filming a dog which stick his head inside the lens hood - the image was sharp and funny ;-)

I use the Rynox makro converter and this makes really nice macro close ups.
