Accessory shoe plate

On the top of the front accessory shoe of the Z5, there is a metal plate (it was on when I got the camera). I have noticed that this metal plate is loose ,thus when you move the camera up and down the built in microphone (that is right below this shoe mount) picks up the noise from this loose plate. Do you guys leave this metal plate on? How do you take care of this. Can you remove this plate?
