Well I have never used an EX1 i am afraid so i cannot comment so much on that comparison, i think the EX1 uses a servo/manual lens doesn't it, with a hole lot more trickery and price of course, so it is probably not quite up to those standards!

I would say that when you use it, you really know "where" you are though, especially with the focus ring as well, they both are infinite rings but give a greater sense of mechanical operation with the resistance they both have.

If you are really unsure, maybe try a demo of the camera?
