Better focusing ?

I'm wondering when camcorders will have multi-point focusing such as that found on this $300 Canon PowerShot A710 IS :

Does anyone here talk to Sony ? I would pay extra for more control over camcorder focusing. There really is no reason for all of that video footage that is focused on the back wall.
