LCD Screen + UV Rays = ?

I once read that using the LCD screen in direct sunlight could damage it over time. The recommendation was to use a hood - improved visibility and protection from the UV rays. On the Z1 the LCD has the backlight option for shooting in bright outdoor conditions - it works. But is there a risk of somehow damaging it over time by having it expose to the UV rays - not using a LCD hood? Fact or fiction?
