Welcome to DVinfo Leon. You will get more responses to your threads if you give them descriptive titles instead of your name, so I'm changing this one for you.

There are a lot of upgrades on the Z1. Much better manual control, better LCD screen and viewfinder, 3ccd's, looks more professional. One of the big advantages is that the Z1 shoots in both PAL and NTSC SD modes plus 1080i50 and 1080i60 HDV modes. This was actually why I got one, since I needed to do a PAL DV project.

But the A1 looks like a very nice smaller camera as well and the price is considerably lower, so you have to define your needs and choose the best value.

If you are comparing the FX1 and the Z1 then take a look here http://hdvinfo.net/articles/sonyhdrfx1/compare.php

There is also a good article here about it http://www.sonyhdvinfo.com/article.p...1E,-and-HVR-Z1

The main differences are that the FX1 is considerably cheaper but lacks, XLR pro balanced audio input, the ability to switch between 50i (pal) and 60i, a down converted PROGRESSIVE SD stream, little 'pro' features etc

There is also a Sticky on this issue.

I could not justify spending the extra on a Z1 as I am using a lot of ADR and direct to disk sound recording. I am also lucky? to live in a NZ with PAL so I didn't have a choice but to go with the FX1e (50i) that conforms to 25/24p better.
