Z1 Rubber Eye Cup

I was in Japan recently and saw a Sony Qualia camera similiar to the FX1 and Z1 but it was a glossy black and had a rubber eye cup similar to the PD170's.

Does anyone know where I could purchase this eye cup and would it fit on the Z1? The Z1 does not come with a rubber eye cup similar in design to the PD170 right? Is it only available in Japan? Would I be able to purchase this from a Sony parts/service center in Japan? Anyone know what the price may be?

My PAL version has the large eyecup as a spare in the box,
page 16 of the manual shows how to swop it over from the normal one.

My Z1 had one of these too, but it was so huge I decided not to use it! Strange that your camera didn't have one. Did you buy from a Sony authorized dealer, or one of the questionable gray market sources that unbundles everything? If you want to purchase one it should be available from Sony's pro parts website here:

https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-parts.aspx

Enter hvrz1u in the search box and follow the links. It appears that the large eyecup is part number 217941401. But I hope you REALLY want it, cause it costs $38.40! :-)

Boyd,

I don't have the camera yet. Whenever I've seen the camera it never has the bigger eyecup attached so I wasn't sure if it came with it. So is it safe to assume that it does come in the box and is available to swap if you want to?

Anyone know what the deal is with the other Qualia camera? From my understanding, its a Japanese consumer version similar to the FX1. I had thought it was a new camera that was coming out soon and was gonna hold out on purchasing the Z1. My friend that was with me had talked to one of the people there and he told her that it had been available in Japan for sometime now. I wonder what the differences are as it seemed identical to the Z1 but apparently was for the consumer market.

Mine had the eyecup, yours should too. Download the PDF brochure here:

Qualia was a line of overpriced tech toys from Sony. As part of their recent restructuring they have discontinued it, although there still might be a chance left to pay too much for one of these products if you can find a dealer that has one ;-) See the following:
