Sony wide angle lense for FX1 (VCL-HG0872X)

I just purchased a sony VCL-HG0872X wide angle lens for my FX1,
SOVCLHG0872X

But to my suprise it does not fit the FX1, it has a bayonet style mount but will not fit the lense as it's a little to big. BH Photo insist it's the right lense for the FX1 but it will just not fit on anyway I try. Does anyone have any ideas, am I missing something here?

Marketing materials mention it's made for the FX1000, I not sure if the mounts are different on this camera lense.

Here are the specs:

The VCL-HG0872X Wide Conversion Lens from Sony is designed for use with the HDR-FX1000 Handycam and other camcorders with a 72mm lens. This lens helps you capture the entire scene indoors or in other tight spaces as well as landscape and group shots with up to 0.8x maginification.

• Wide conversation lens with 0.8x magnification
• Fits the HDR-FX1000 and all 72mm diameter lenses
• Aluminum housing and glass lens - 3 elements/3 groups

I figured out the answer... issue here is there are 2 type of lenses. One with an X at the end of the product code for FX1000 and one without for FX1.

VCL-HG0872X - Fits Sony FX1000
Sony | VCL-HG0872X Wide Conversion Lens | VCL-HG0872X | B&H
VCL-HG0872X | Wide Conversion Lens VCL-HG0872X | Sony | SonyStyle USA

VCL-HG0872 - Fits Sony FX1
Sony | VCL-HG0872 72mm 0.8x Hi-Grade Wide Lens | VCLHG0872 | B&H
VCL-HG0872 : Lens & Filter : Handycam Accessories : Sony Asia Pacific

Although the Sony 0.8x lens gives a nice clean picture I do feel it's a huge lump to carry about (and with the supplied hood even bigger) for such a mild increase in view. I know Sony limit the power so as to control the barrel distortion, but even so it seems to much, too heavy, too expensive for too little.

Marcus,

I am using a Genus Wide Angle Matte box, it works wih the Sony wide angle and most likely some others, it's a really great addition to the camera. Genus have excellent customer support by the way.

I have tried a few other matte boxes, Cavision but although I like them there is much evident vignette. Here is the link to the mattebox I am using.

Genus | GMCBAF-72 Matte Box with Advanced Base Rod | GWMCBAF-72

I had the same issue. I bought mine off amazon and it said it was for the FX-1 and when I got it did not fit at all and I was frusterated to say the least. I ended up going down to a sony store to try it on a FX1000 and it fit so then the problem it was figured out.

I got a new one sent out for the FX1 and never got around to sending the other one back, Brand new sitting in my closet if anybody is looking or knows of somebody with a FX1000.
