Z1's used on the set of Peter Jackson's King Kong
Okay, that may have been misleading... but not really.
The film is being shot on film, but Peter Jackson has been releasing production diaries every few days for the past 129 days. They will end up in the special features of the DVD, and the latest one is sort of a little docu on what that crew has been doing... and lo and behold when you see the camera... it's a Z1. Anyways, you can find the production diaries at Kong is King. Day 129 gives you the glimpse of the Z1's. They files are pretty compressed MPEG-4 files, but I'm assuming we'll see better quality on the DVD when it comes out... |

I thought the Z1U had a wide angle/rectangular shaped Sony lens hood? That one looked 4 X 3!

Nonetheless, the camera was black, had the LCD up top, and said HDV on it....

Some of the cameras you saw in that clip were definitely PD150/170s.
There seem to be a number of different models in use in that clip, PDs and HD1s in addition to other cameras. The camera Andy Serkis pulls out of the box looks to be a FX1. |
