Not sure where you got that info:

The housing is $2899.00.

When purchased with the housing, the cost of a 4" LCD/TFT monitor will be $399.00, whereas the 5.6" LCD/TFT monitor will be $499.00. Both include 12v/4.3Ahr NIMH battery pack and charger.

The housing includes a flat port, an optional dome port is $399.00.

Scroll down past the last series of pictures and check out the fine print at the end of the HZR-Z1U text. (Unless they were only quoting the price of the camera, which could be the case.)

You're probably right about Gates, fine equipment, but you get what you pay for. I'd like to see Amphibico come up with something also.
