Internal down-convert
If you record in HDV mode, then use the internal down-convert to a DV capture: Is the image is:
- 16:9 anamorph ? - 16:9 letterbox ? - 4:3 cropped ? Thank. |

There is a menu setting for TV-TYPE which let's you set it to 16:9 or 4:3. 16:9 means that it downconverts all the outputs including firewire to 16:9 anamorphic. The 4:3 setting means that it converts them to 16:9 letterboxed to fit a 4:3 television. So both are possible.
If you record HDV, it's always 16:9, so you can't get 4:3 cropped out of this camera. (Z1 might do this?) |

The Z1 will provide the addition of a 4:3 center cut output.
The FX-1 outputs from HD to SD in the following formats: 4:3 anamorphic 16:9 letterbox The FX-1 does not provide a "16x9 anamorphic" output- the output is 4:3 and your display device does the correction to 16:9 widescreen. |
