Century Optics Add-on lenses and mattebox

Century finally has a page listing the lenses available today and in the near future for the FX-1/Z1. They also have a 4x4 mattebox listed.

Saw this in person at the Century booth a short while ago during DV Expo West in L.A. Thanks Mike,

Gentleman,

Please let me introduce myself;
Bas Ladru, from Vocas the manufacturer of the Century matteboxes.

In the states our DV matteboxes are mainly sold under the Century brand, and in the rest of the world under our own brand.

Our matteboxes do fit on the Sony HDV's!
There is one small problem, the T shaped handle of the filter frame interferes with the microphone, but this can be solved to use the frames upside down.
At the moment we are working very hard to produce a new filter frame with a shorter handle, which allows the frame to be used as normal.
These new frames will be available in the first or second week of January.
By that time we will also have a 15mm rail support available for this camera.
Please check out our website in one or two weeks.
www.vocas.com

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions about matteboxes.

Regards,

Bas Ladru

Bas -

If I already have the Century Matte Box, how much would the new rail support cost? I have a rail set for a Sony VX1000 with 15mm rails.

Also, when will the new filter frame be available and how much will they cost?

Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Bas
Thank you very much for the info on the new matte box. Do you know if this item will work with graduated neutral density 4"x4" filters ? Often the filters must extend above the filter holder, and it appears that the microphone on the Sony camera will prevent this.

Dear Dennis,

The filter cannot be shifted upwards, it will hit the mic imediately.
You can shift it downwards.
You can consider putting the filterframe up-side-down in the mattebox (with the T shaped handle pointing downwards), this allows an extra 8mm upwards shifting.

Sony engineers have not realised that people would like to use filters and matteboxes on this camera....

Regards,

Bas
