FX1 back-ordered
A friend of mine down here in South Florida says most companies told him the FX1 is back-ordered until mid-December.

Where's the demand?
The demand for the FX1/Z1 seems to have caught Sony by surprise. I find it hard to beleive they would throttle the market in these days visible quarterly results. Therefore I assume that marketing had no idea of demand and production were not gear for the volume required to meet demand.
I would expect there would be some face to be saved infront of the board and shareholders. But I wonder what the typical market profile is for this camera? I would think the simple answer is the XL or VX owners profile, but that is simplisitic. This mix of HD, budget and manual overide on everything I need, though Auto is pretty good if not a 1/8 of stop over IMHO, is neat. Geeks love this stuff. Housed in a much anticipated high Q underwater housing I am soooo looking forward to HD UW footage of some wrecks. In the mean time a practice using the camera as much as possible. Tony |

The HD10 and HD1 sales caught JVC off guard, too. They sold a LOT of those cameras, but I'm almost positive the FX1/Z1 will outsell the HD10/1.
Esp. since many videographers and DPs who hated the HD10/1 and refused to buy/use it, are now interested in the FX1/Z1. heath

heath -->>> You know there are easily a dozen or so on ebay right now from some big dealers who are reputable. I don't want to take away from any of Chris's vendors, but there are other places to look. Cheers DBK

Yeah most places are either 'sold out' or have one or two in stock.
But to be honest, I don't think the demand caught Sony off guard at all. Infact, I really believe this is exactly what Sony wanted.... They have managed to get their product desired and drooled over and hard to find. Therefore, industry and non industry types would salavate at the "opportunity" to purchase a camera and fork over the $5k. And hey, it worked... I'm a happy client!! But honestly, I really think this was a very well conceived launch. -alex

Same thing happened with the HD10 and the CineAlta--VERY popular cameras.
