Z1 main board repair.

My Z1 stopped workin, sony repair service in my town says that they have to change the mainboard and that the price is around 2,000 usd which is a lot of money. Anyone know something about the price of having this preocedure done in the USA? Maybe a contact for a repair shop that you trust?

Rodrigo, since the camera is out of warranty - it will cost a lot of money to repair

I'm in Canada and know that mainboard replacements w/labour can range between $1500-$2000 easy

I wouldn't spend 2K on this camera - as the camera itself is not worth a whole lot more than that. You might want to consider upgrading to a newer camera. If that is not feasible then by all means get it repaired

Do you have insurance? You might be able to get coverage

Thanks for your answer, Paul.I tought that I was getting charged that much because of import taxes in Mexico. I'm gonna keep looking for a better option, I really want this camera to be fixed. The price for a new one is almost 5,000 usd.

main board

I personally have never seen a bad main board unless it's been water/moisture damaged. How is it not working? do you get any power in any mode?

I had a main board replaced in my HVR-A1U this winter. It cost me $1,200. The problem was that all of a sudden the camera started cycling its power turning on and turning off at about maybe five second intervals. I found if you turned if off then and after a few seconds turned it back on it would stay on for at least several minutes but the firewire port was shot.

If you don't have a good working relationship established with a service group then I recommend sending your camera to Armatos Pro Video in New York. You can depend on them to get your camera done quickly.
