It is true HD, but it's not upto the full spec required by most broadcasters for many of their projects.
There are 2 reasons for this, first the chips are small (1/3", broadcasters prefer 2/3" or at least 1/2"), secondly the compression is HDV (ie VERY compressed) which can cause problems during transmission.
And thridly I suppose, the lens on the Z1 is not that great.
But spec-wise it is "true HD", it's 1920x1080 (well 1440x1080 and then stretched) and that's all that it needs to be.

Of course it is full hd.
The only thing is, that it is subsampling, by having less pixels on the sensor than the delivered output. Like many cameras did and still do.
Also the Lens is not the best. But the delivered HDV format is of course HD.

There is no such thing as this nonsense of "true" HD, relative to other HD formats. It's either HD or it isn't. HDV is indeed an HD format. The Z1 is indeed an HD camcorder. Case closed.
