Hvr-z1j & Hvr-z1p

Does anyone know the difference between the Z1P and Z1J ? Im wondering if it may just be a different model for a different region in the world ?? It seems i can get a Z1J for a lot cheaper than the Z1P and since they both seem to record PAL and NTSC its got me wondering if there is any reason why i shouldnt get a Z1J even though where i live (Australia) the model sony released is Z1P.. Obviously my mian concern is the Z1J will handle my local PAL format properly.

Appreciate any info.

Hi Randy,

Having done a quick google search it seems that there is no appreciable difference in the cameras. Who knows what moves the minds of Sony marketing. Though the J is several thousand dollars cheaper than the P so one would assume that something is missing.

Are you thinking of buying one?

I was originally just looking at an FX1.. But recently ive seen the Z1J available for not too much more than an FX1 so i have now gotten interested in that option. The balanced audio and NTSC on Z1 would be useful for what i do, and i think it has a 24p simulation option also which may come in handy.. I just dont want to buy one and get stuck if its not the same.

I guess it comes down to what you need the camera to do. I've been working with the Z1P for nearly a year now in the Kimberley and while they take nice pictures they aren't as robust as their predecessors the PD range. Having said that, the end of tape seems to be in sight if not upon us with the Z7 and the EX ranges.

I guess one of the best options for you is to go into your nearest dealer and have a look at both models for yourself, take em for a test drive, check their menu settings etc and see if there really is any difference.

I'd be interested to know.

Dumb question... does the Z1J have menus in Japanese? Don't have my Z1 here and can't remember whether it has the option to choose different languages or if they sell localized versions in different countries.

Im familiar with the FX1 so i know what the Z1 is like and i'll definately get either one of those models.. My question was if the Z1J is exactly the same as the Z1P ? Basically if i buy a Z1P in Australia i pay $6000 if i buy a Z1J imported to Australia i pay under $4000!! So you can see i'm keen to save two thousand dollars if it is basically the same camera..

The languages thing is one of the queries i have about the "J" incarnation.. I dont mind if it defaults to Japanese as long as i can change it to english.. Also the power and other features id like to know if they are all the same..
