Sony Z1 downconvert again.

Sorry Im new to this camera and need some advice from people more aware than I am.
When I downconvert should I, in the menu , component page do anything or just leave it as 1080i/576i
Im In pal land here. Or should I change to 576i ?

Also, when I capture the downconvert into my NLE (Vegas) the Video size is 720x576. Is this the correct resoultion for this?
I thought that true 16.9 was higher resoultion than this.

Any other help would be welcomed.

Thanks
Simon

Simon, are you capturing over Firewire? If so you can ignore the component setting.

If you're digitising video to a video capture card set it to 576i

Widescreen DV is 720x576 but the pixels are not square.

Dylan has summed it up very well. Assuming you're using i.Link (firewire), you would choose i.LINK CONV from the menu. That will make your Z1 look exactly like a regular DV camera. All standard definition DV is 720x576, but widescreen is anamorphic, meaning the pixels are stretched to fill the full screen. So it will behave as though the resolution is 1024x576, but your TV will do the stretching of the 720x576 image.

The component settings only affect the analog output from the special cable which came with your camera.
