Possibly inane question about V1 power switch

Just to satisfy my curiosity about my favorite new toy, why does one have to press in the little green safety button in order to turn ON the camera. Shouldn't the safety button be aimed at preventing you from shutting the camera OFF during shooting, rather than preventing you from accidentally draining the battery?

I've yet to accidentally turn the camera off, but if I had to choose between the two options, I'd rather protect the shot and keep extra batteries handy.

Or am I missing something obvious...
