Need Monitor Calibration Advice W/ V1U
I just got the V1U and without more than a few hours of playing with it and reading the manual have an opportunity tonight to practice by filming a band in a live studio / club type setting.
I will be using two V1's. One handheld and one center rear. I have thought about taking my new LG 20" 720p HDTV monitor I just got for use in editing to the shoot to use as a monitor for the fixed rear camera. Here are my questions; 1. The monitor is set to the factory presets as I don't have a calibration DVD or know of a way to calibrate it. The hour or so of footage I have shot around the house with just normal lighting and the Sony DW20 cam light and outside in natural sunlight look incredible on the monitor as is (going straight from the cam to HDTV via HDMI cable through HDMI switcher). The color pallette looks accurate, contrast good, etc. Finally here is the question; is taking this uncalibrated monitor to use at this shoot for focus, brightness, etc reference a good idea or should stick to the camera LCD? 2. What is the best way to calibrate my HDTV? it does not have the adjustments a REAL production monitor would have but I can RGB and darkness level. |
