Using Focus Macro

Can someone please explain why you would ever need to disable this feature on the V1?

As far as I understand, when ON you can focus on subjects within 80cm, and when set to OFF you can't. So why turn it off?

Also what scenario would one use the AF ASSIST option. Is it any real use?

Thank you!

I was caught out by this feature early on.

If you're using autofocus - no problem.

If you're in the habit of manual focus, if macro is on, then you zoom in to pick up sharp focus and zoom out to frame your shot, V1 loses focus.

Essentially, macro changes the backfocus. So for me, it stays off, because I manual focus about 98% of the time.
